Vision:本课程是帮助中国留学生应对美国大学写作的挑战。目前，阻碍中国留学生在美国大学发挥的往往是其学术写作需求。这些写作要求文体与结构精湛、逻辑清晰，研究练习深入。本课程的学习与训练旨在于帮助学生成功留学和完善思维表达。

本课程是参考哈佛自1872年起沿用至今的写作课程设计而成；基于哈佛的哲学：“写和想不能分开。在写作课程中，你会花绝大多数时间处理写作策略--通过反复修改，发现和整理有说服力的ideas与evidence。”

ProgramDetails:授课形式除了一对一面授与远程之外，我们鼓励学生积极参与，采用文理学院教学模式，设计了十人以下小班。分part-time和full-time两种班型：

·Part-time，每周1次课（3小时），12周；

·Full-time，每周3次课（3小时），4周。

Curriculum:通过这个课程，学生学习掌握美国大学的学术论文写作--包括创造主题，进行研究，写作结构设计。课程关注文科写作，包括文学和非文学类题材：

·文学类：比较同一作者作品，或比较相同主题写作；

·历史类：阅读历史书籍，或重要社会科学著作；

·独立研究：基于上述训练，完成论文写作。

课程中包括1000字至3000字的各类美国大学常见的论文写作训练和辅导。

Advanced Writing for College Success

Vision:Our writing course will prepare students for the challenge of writing in English at the college level.In our experience,students from China who attend US Universities struggle with the rigorous standards of academic writing,which requires clarity of logic,eloquence of writing style and structure and extensive practice with research.

Advanced Writing for College Success will be based mostly on Expos 20,the cornerstone writing course at Harvard College required for all students since 1872.Per Harvard’s message to its students:“The Expos philosophy is that writing and thinking are inseparably related and that good thinking requires good writing.Although your instructor will critique the style of your papers in Expos,you will spend most of your time in class on strategies of argument--discovering and arranging persuasive ideas and evidence through a process of drafting and revising.”

Program Details:Besides 1 to 1 tutoring,class size should be kept to 10 students to 1 teacher to encourage more active participation and to better simulate a class in an American college.Two possible timings are possible:

·School year(part-time)course meeting 1 time a week(3 hours)for 12 weeks

·Summer(full-time)course meeting 3 times a week(3 hours)for 4 weeks

Curriculum:Students should leave with a strong understanding of how to write an academic essay—including creating a strong thesis,conducting a research plan,and utilizing clear essay structure.The course should focus on the humanities and include both fiction and non-fiction components.

The following is a sample curriculum for the school year course:

·4 weeks on literature.Reading should list should consist of classic books,and topics can include:comparing two books by the same author(such as 1984 and Animal Farm)or comparing two books with similar themes(such as Pride and Prejudice and Little Women)

·4 weeks on history.Reading may draw from textbooks(e.g.The American Pageant,which is an AP US textbook)or popular non-fiction(e.g.Guns,Germs,and Steel).

·4 weeks on an individual research topic.Ideally,this research paper would build on one of the student’s earlier papers.

Assignments should vary in length,from 1000 word essays to 3000 word essays,so that students can get practice with the different types of assignments they will see in the U.S.
